What is an easy breakfast recipe?

This means you need to have some easy breakfast recipes that you can make in a few simple steps or prepare overnight so that you have a delicious meal when you wake up. So here are four easy gujarati breakfast recipes to start your morning the right way.

1. Khaman Dhokla

Dhokla looks and sounds like it would be difficult to make and depending on the recipe it can be a drawn out process, however our Khaman Dhokla is a quick and easy breakfast recipe that you can prepare overnight.

Ingredients:

½ cup Water

½ tsp Salt

1 tsp Sugar

1 tbsp Sugar

1 tbsp Oil

1 tsp Lemon Juice

½ tbsp Ginger Paste

½ tbsp Green Chili paste

2 Green Chillies

1 cup Chickpea flour

1 tbsp Semolina

¼ tsp Turmeric

¾ tsp Baking Soda

½ tsp Sesame seeds

5 Curry Leaves

½ tsp Mustard Seeds

¼ tsp Hing

½ cup Water

Method:

1- Mix together the water, salt,  1 tsp sugar, oil, lemon juice, ginger and chili paste.

2- Mix the turmeric, semolina and chickpea flour in a separate bowl. 

3- Slowly add the liquid to the dry ingredients, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

4- The batter should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.

5- Prepare your steamer.

6- Pour your mixture into a bowl that will fit in your steamer basket and mix in your baking soda evenly.

7- Put the bowl into the steamer on high for 20 minutes and on low for 5 minutes

8- Insert a knife into the Dhokla to see if it comes out clean. If it does, turn off the heat and remove the bowl.

9- Let the Dhokla cool slightly

10- in a separate bowl, heat up some oil and add your mustard seeds, green chilies and curry leaves.

11- Once they have started to sputter, add 1 tbsp sugar, green chillies, mustard seeds and hing to the hot oil.

12- Add water to the mixture and let the sugar dissolve

13- Once the mixture has cooled slightly, pour over cut Dholka and let it soak

14- Serve and enjoy!

2. Amiri Khaman

You’ll be glad you have made the classic Dhokla because this Gujrati nasta recipe is mostly constructed using Khaman Dhokla. This easy breakfast recipe is just as delicious but it also makes use of any leftover Dhoklas you might have in the fridge. It is the perfect quick breakfast recipe to make before work.

Ingredients:

20 Khaman Dhoklas

2 tsp Oil

1 tsp Mustard Seeds

2 tsp Garlic (Crushed)

2 Green Chillies (Sliced)

¼ tsp Hing

2 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp Pomegranate Seeds

1 tbsp chopped Coriander Leaves

3 tbsp Sev

Method:

1- Crumble Khaman Dhoklas in a separate bowl

2- In a pan. heat up the oil and add mustard seeds

3- Once the seeds start to sputter add the garlic, green chillies, hing and mix together

4- Saute for two minutes and remove from heat

5- Pour the oil mixture over the dhoklas and scatter sugar, pomegranate seeds, coriander leaves and sev over the dhokla.

6- Mix together and serve.

3. Masala Khakhra

The Gujarati khakhra is known nationwide for being a delicious snack food along with a cup of tea but it also makes for an easy breakfast recipe for people on the go. This crispy snack is easy to make and carry around with you.

Ingredients:

½ cup Whole Wheat Flour

1 tbsp Chickpea Flour

½ tsp Cumin Seeds

½ tsp Chili Powder

¼ tsp Turmeric

¼ tsp Hing 

3 tbsp Milk

2 tsp Oil

Salt to taste

Method:

1- Mix together the dry ingredients in a bowl

2- Bring together the dough by slowly adding the milk as necessary till a rough dough forms

3- Knead the dough until it becomes a hard but smooth ball

4- Segment the dough into even sections of 4

5- Roll each section till it forms a flat disc 1 cm in width

6- Heat a non stick pan and place the rolled out dough on the pan

7- Let is cook till the khakhra starts to bubble and pink spots appear

8- Cook on both sides till golden brown

9- Store your Masala Khakhras and enjoy.

4. Fafda

Similar to the previous snack this easy breakfast recipe is also a chickpea flour but deep fried instead. This easy dish is the ultimate comfort food, satisfying all your cravings and helping you start your day with a bang.

Ingredients:

1 cup Chickpea Flour

¼ tsp Carom Seeds

1 tbsp Black Pepper

¼ tsp Turmeric 

⅛ tsp Hing

¼ tsp tsp Baking Soda

4 tbsp water add as required

2 tbsp oil

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying, as required

Method:

1- In a bowl mix besan, carom seeds, black pepper, turmeric, hing, baking soda and salt to taste.

2- Add water in parts, kneading the mixture together to form a tight dough.

3- Now add oil mix again and continue to knead.

4- Continue to knead till all the water is absorbed.

5- Let the dough rest for 30 minutes

6- Separate the dough into even sections

7- Roll out the dough lengthwise onto an oiled surface

8- In a separate pan, heat up oil and fry the dough until golden brown.

9- Serve and enjoy!
